| In Our Nation's Capitol |

Had a rainy drive down, on and off, but it was only heavy once; not bad overall.
More things are in bloom down here than have cut loose yet in Pittsburgh; I did see some cherry blossoms (but no CLAMP boys), redbuds, and what I think was a tulip tree all blossoming away. ♥
I managed to survive two traffic circles (ugh hate those), then missed the hotel entrance the first time by - on a one-way street, of course - and had to do some circling around to get back to it. The awning over the entrance is much lower to the ground than I would have expected. ^^;;
The room itself is quite posh. King-size bed, an L-shaped sofa and coffee table in one corner, large desk, and there's still room to move around comfortably. It even has a dorm-sized fridge and a teeny little microwave. I feel spoiled. (The only other time I've been on anything resembling "business travel" was going down to work at Otakon for the anime store, and we had 5 or 6 people crammed into a room smaller than this.) There's nothing much of a view from this room, it looks out over an alley, but you can't have everything right?
After check-in I walked around a bit, found out it's less than a 15-minute walk to where my class is, there's an Au Bon Pain practically next door and a Borders bookstore across the street. I saw my first "black SUV with opaque windows and guys in suits standing next to it" while roaming in search of some dinner (but didn't want to get in trouble loitering around to see whose car it might be). Found a nice little Thai restaurant, Pasara; their pad thai was less spicy than I would have expected, but still good. There was only one other diner when I went in, but the place was 80% full by the time I finished eating. Maybe dinner hour is later in DC? *shrug*
Anyway, now I'm nested into my plushy hotel room for the night. *purr* If I have things figured right, I don't even have to get up until 7 tomorrow morning! |

Well, the purveyors of my professional development class aren't above giving me one last minor coronary infarction. At 4 PM this afternoon, I got an email from them.
Me: Oh, NO WAI, don't you even TRY to tell me they're canceling it at the last minute - *gasp wheeze hyperventilate*
Email: * perkily repeats the confirmation info they sent me earlier in the week, just in case I wasn't paying attention the first time! *
Me: ... ... ... Okay that was kind of cruel, but at least the class is still on. |

So finally, a year and a half after my company paid the course fee (and one new software version release later), I get to attend the class I wanted for professional development.
Of course, all of this didn't get sorted out until practically the last minute. :P I will be in Washington DC - mere blocks from the White House! - from the evening of March 29 until afternoon on April 1.
Wonder if the new Kitchen Garden is at all visible from the street...? |

I am a bad, bad blogger and never updated with thank-yous for the last three people who helped me reach my target goal for Operation Freefall! Let me fix that now:

You have all ensured that I really will be throwing myself out of an airplane on April 25th. ^^;;
